It’s been a way of Life in Japan for Thousand of Years.
The effect of tatami
▪Absorb and release moisture to maintain a comfortable environment and keeps the room humidity
When the humidity increases, it absorbs moisture, and when it decreases, it releases moisture. In our lives, where natural mater ials are becoming scarce, Tatami is working hard to control the humidity of the room. Excessive humidity can cause mold, mites, an dtermites, and it can cause mold to grow. Sometimes it may be necessary to have a professional measure of tatami mat moisture to prevent moisture damage.
▪Inhale bad air and clean the room
The tatami mats absorb nitrogen dioxide and VOC (volatile organic compounds), which have a negative impact on humans, and have the power to clean the air in the room. The unique scent of that grass also has a similar effect on a forest bath that r ela xes our feelings, relieves stress and stabilizes our spirits. Living with a Japanese style room may be an ideal life for modern people.
The tatami mat has been the best flooring solution for humans for thousands of years.
High moisture absorption and moisture release
▪The diameter of the rush is about 1.5mm
▪The cross section is like a beehive.
Tatami supports “healthy living”
▪Outstanding tatami comfort
There is a lot of air in each rush. Due to its soft structure, it has excellent elasticity and durability, sound absorption, sound insulation effect, and keeps cool in summer, and warm in the winter. In addition, the refreshing scent, color, and touch are important elements that support a comfortable everyday life.
▪Tatami mats are ideal for the elderly and babies
It is no exaggeration to say that living in a Japanese style room with tatami mats will support the future health of Japanese people. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare Longevity Chemical Research, “Japanese style life is ideal” as an osteoporosis fracture prevention measure that is feared to be a bedridden cause in the aged society. For example, the life of sleeping in a futon in a tatami room is different from the life of a chair. The time until high school students with increased bone mass is sometimes important. Important bedtime will disperse body pressure and prevent spine bending. And the feel of the tatami surface stimulates the feet of babies and the elderly and activates the brain. Also, in the event of a fall, the shock is eased.
About tatami surface consists of two part’s; rush and warp yarn
The rush is dyed by putting it in clay like mud called dyed soil, dried and selected as a tatami mat. A regular tatami mat uses 4,000 rush per tatami mat. About 6,000 to 7,000 rushes are used on a high quality tatami mat. The length, quality, and color of the rush will greatly affect the quality of the tatami mat. The condition of good tatami mats is that there is no discoloration, withering, breakage, scratches, or illness on the stem of the rush, and it is fulfilled from the root to the t ip.
Thickness and color of each rush must be well aligned. And it is generally said that a tatami mat that uses long rush is bett er.
This is because good quality parts, excluding the roots and tips, can be used for tatami mats.
It seems that the most people do not know about warp yarn because it is a part that can not be seen when it becomes a tatami.
The tatami mats are knitted with “warp”, which can be roughly divided into “hemp” and “thread”. “Hemp” is pulled more strongly, and even if the “warp” is the same length, many weeds can be weaved, so that we can make a tatami mat with a thick and evenly arranged valley so that we can weave it firmly. Among “Hemp”, what is called “Manila hemp” is the highest grade.
